The size you see listed for a painting usually refers to the frame size, not the size of the painted image. Normally, I set up my paintings to include hardboard mats, which means the painted image will be smaller than the frame size shown (by about 25%).

My hardboard mats are painted with antique white interior latex. If you would prefer a different color, you have the option of painting the mat with your own choice of color prior to installing it in a frame.

If you prefer a painting that is Unmatted, it will be painted “to the edges”, which means the painted image will be the same as the frame size.

Paintings that are larger than 30"x36" are painted on canvas, and are painted around the edges, in the “Gallery Wrap” style, which allows them to be displayed unframed.
